We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to work with us on XCH4
algorithm development for MethaneSAT (https://www.methanesat.org
<https://www.methanesat.org>) shortwave infrared spectroscopic
measurements of local methane sources worldwide. Airborne measurements
by MethaneSAT’s testbed instrument MethaneAIR will be used to develop
the XCH4 algorithm for MethaneSAT before its launch in 2022. The
research involves improving atmospheric spectral fitting, inversion,
radiative transfer modeling, instrument calibration, and validating
measurements.
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in atmospheric science, meteorology,
physics, or a related field and should have a strong background in
remote sensing of atmospheric trace gases and aerosols, radiative
transfer modeling, and spectroscopy. Excellent computer skills, good
oral and written communication skills in English as demonstrated by a
publication record, and the ability to start very soon are prerequisites.
The work will be conducted at Harvard-Smithsonian Center for
Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. The tentative start date
is March 1, 2020 but is negotiable. The initial appointment is for 2
years with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory progress.
To apply, applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and
contact details of at least three academic references to Dr. Kelly
Chance (kchance at cfa.harvard.edu <mailto:kchance at cfa.harvard.edu>) and
Dr. Xiong Liu (xliu at cfa.harvard.edu <mailto:xliu at cfa.harvard.edu>).
