Position Summary
The Department of Environment and Sustainability at the University at
Buffalo seeks to hire an Associate or Full Professor for the newly created
Kikta Chair.
A focus of the chairholder's responsibilities will be experiential,
problem-based teaching. In addition to well-established expertise in
environmental and sustainability issues, candidates should have a
demonstrated commitment to developing innovative experiential learning
programs. The specific research field is open - and we value non-academic
work experience in addition to traditional scholarly achievements
appropriate to the rank.
The Department is in its second year, with 8 full-time faculty and 10
faculty with appointments that are split with other departments. The
Department is growing rapidly. Three full-time faculty have been hired in
the past year, and we have approval for a future cluster hire of three
additional full-time tenure-track faculty. The Kikta Chair, thanks to the
generosity of UB graduate Edward Kikta, is in addition to those hires.
Our interdisciplinary faculty brings training in ecology, history,
geography, sustainability studies, sociology, gender studies, communication,
geology, anthropology, and media studies. The Department has long
established undergraduate programs in Environmental Studies and
Environmental Geosciences; graduate programs in Sustainability Leadership
and Evolution, Ecology and Behavior, and plans to offer additional degrees.

Western New York is a superb place for studying the critical nexus of
societal and environmental problems. The region includes rural, suburban and

on environmental conservation and restoration.
The University at Buffalo is the largest of the State University of New York
institutions and a member of the prestigious American Association of
Universities. The university has a full array of professional schools. Our
