> The project focuses on quantifying the effects of past climate change, including abrupt glacial climate transitions, on the evolution and migration of Homo sapiens, Neanderthals, Denisovans and the extinction of Pleistocene megafauna. The successful applicant will use and further develop a computer model which simulates key aspects of dispersal, adaptation, interbreeding, competition and culture. The model will be forced with climate data obtained from a 2-million-year-long transient climate model simulation conducted recently at the ICCP with the Community Earth System model.

> The main goal of this multidisciplinary research will be to develop longterm earth-system projections beyond the next millennium using a hierarchy of earth system models, including the low-resolution fast version of the Community Earth System Model (CESM) coupled to the Penn State ice-sheet model and CESM2. The research project addresses fundamental questions on the longterm habitability of our planet and the successful candidate will conduct longterm transient simulations covering the next 100,000 years using various carbon-cycle and extreme forcing scenarios. The research will provide new insights into climate change legacy effects on ice-sheets, global sea level, terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

> The main goal of the research will be to develop a better understanding of future ocean circulation changes using a suite of century-long simulations recently conducted at the ICCP with the Community Earth system model with 10 km global ocean and 25 km resolution atmosphere resolution. The successful applicant will study the mechanisms of global-warming induced changes in ocean mesoscale variability, and large-scale ocean circulation. Of particular interest are projected changes in Arctic Ocean circulation and the California, Benguela and Humboldt current upwelling systems.
