Who we are
Climate change dynamics, in The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas
A&M University, researches the physical processes that determine our climate
as well as providing insight into how and why the climate changes. This is
an enormous topic and covers spatial scales from cloud particles, with radii
of microns, to large-scale atmospheric waves, with length scales of
thousands of kilometers. Topics studied in the department include the
physics of convection, climate variability, feedback physics, climate
sensitivity, climate extremes, and regional modeling. Variability and
predictability of climate on seasonal to millennial timescales, coupled
ocean-atmosphere interaction, large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere and the
oceans.
What we want
The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for: studying the
simulation of tropical cyclones and other extreme events in the Energy
Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM); analyzing model output and identifying
the impact of model biases; and preparing condensed datasets as needed. The
selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability (IDEA) as stated above. If
this description appeals to you, we invite you to apply to be considered for
this opportunity.
Required Education:
. Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, or closely related field
. Applicants must have completed all requirements for doctoral degree
prior to employment
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
. Advanced knowledge of climate processes and numerical climate
models
. Good understanding of atmospheric general circulation
. Experience in analyzing output from climate models
. Excellent oral and written communication skills
. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Education and Experience:
. Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, or closely related field
. Experience in analyzing output from climate models
. Past experience in using the NCAR Community Atmospheric Model or a
similar type of model
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
. Excellent oral and written communication skills
. Familiarity with NCAR Community Atmospheric Model or its
derivatives
. Knowledge of Python or other data analysis environment
Responsibilities:
. Collaborative Research - Participates in the project and carries
out the study of tropical cyclones and other extreme events simulated in the
DOE Energy Exa-scale Earth System Model. Compares model results with
observational data to validate model performance.
. Interpreting Data - Analyzes model output and identify the impact
of model biases on extreme events. Makes presentations and prepares
manuscripts for publication.
. Data Management - Generates a suite of initial conditions derived
from observational data for model simulations. Organizes model output, and
prepares condensed data-sets as needed and performs other duties as
assigned.
Instructions to Applicants: Applications received by Texas A&M University
must either have all job application data entered or a resume attached.
Failure to provide all job application data or a complete resume could
result in an invalid submission and a rejected application. We encourage all
