About the Department: The Department of Geosciences is an interdisciplinary program composed of 22 faculty in Geography and Geology offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geography and geology, and a Ph.D. in Geosciences (geosciences.uark.edu<https://fulbright.uark.edu/departments/geosciences/>). The Department also participates in two interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs in Environmental Dynamics and Space and Planetary Sciences. The department is closely affiliated with the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST), Tree-Ring Laboratory, Arkansas Water Resources Center, and the University of Arkansas Stable Isotope Laboratory.

Summary of Job Duties

The Department of Geosciences at University of Arkansas invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geography – GIScience with an anticipated start date of August 2020. Highly qualified applicants for Associate Professor with tenure will also be considered. We seek an outstanding individual with skills in geospatial data science and/or spatial data analytics, and systematic expertise that supports some combination of the University’s three signature research areas (https://researchfrontiers.uark.edu/signature-research-areas/). Systematic areas might include, for example, geospatial intelligence, augmented reality and holographic GIS, economic geography, transportation analysis and logistics, urban and rural design, medical geography, social networks and sharing economy, etc. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, externally-funded research program and complement ongoing collaborative and interdisciplinary research in the Department of Geosciences and the University. Teaching duties may include introductory GIScience, geospatial computational tools, geodatabases, and/or upper-division undergraduate or graduate courses in the candidate’s field of interest.

·         Doctoral degree in geography or a related discipline conferred by the start of employment
·         Demonstrated ability to teach at the senior/graduate level and additional graduate courses
·         Demonstrated ability to develop an independent, externally funded research program
Preferred Qualifications
·         Demonstrated publishing record in respected refereed journals and demonstrated funding capabilities
·         Previous experience/research that complements and enhances the existing research areas of the Department of Geosciences and affiliated centers and programs
