Geological/physical/chemical Environmental Science
Environmental and Ocean Sciences Department, University of San Diego

The University of San Diego (USD) department of Environmental and Ocean
Sciences (EOSC) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track
faculty (benefits based on a 9-month contract) to teach courses in
geological/physical/chemical environmental science during and beyond the
2019-20 academic year. USD is an independent Catholic university whose
primary aim is teaching excellence. The faculty member will teach 18-24
units (6-8 lectures or labs per year) of mostly
freshman/sophomore-level lectures and laboratory sections, and some
junior/senior/graduate (MS)-level courses. Courses may include the
following: Introduction to Geosciences (EOSC 110), Natural Disasters (EOSC
105), Introduction to Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences (EOSC 220),
Environmental Data Analysis (EOSC 222), History of Earth and Climate (EOSC
474), Geological Oceanography (EOSC 450), Marine Geochemistry (EOSC 452),
and Environmental Issues (EOSC 300). In addition, we will consider “Special
Topics” courses in the faculty member’s area of expertise. Course
descriptions can be found at:
http://www.sandiego.edu/cas/environmental-ocean-sciences/program/?area=courses.
In addition to teaching, the faculty may have an opportunity for leadership
in department-sponsored high-school science outreach programs (for
additional compensation). Participating in collaborative research and
mentoring student research is possible during the summer. EOSC faculty
maintain strong ties with marine and environmental researchers at multiple
local institutions.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vita, list of two references, a
statement of interest which discusses teaching philosophy, qualifications
and experience, and a list of potential courses in our curriculum.
In addition, if applicable, please briefly discuss your interest and
experience in STEM educational outreach. All application materials should
be submitted as a single pdf file via e-mail to Soroya Rowley (
soroya at sandiego.edu) with the subject line "EOSC Faculty Search". Further
questions can be directed to Sarah Gray (sgray at sandiego.edu).

Qualifications: PhD preferred but not required, teaching experience at the
college/university level required.

This is an 9-month benefits based position. The University of San Diego
offers a very competitive benefits package, to include medical, dental,
vision, a 12% retirement contribution given to you by the University (with
three-year vesting period), and access to on-campus Fitness Centers. For
full consideration, materials must be received by April 16th, 2019. Persons
