Worcester State University, Department of Earth, Environment, and Physics,
seeks a broadly trained earth scientist for a tenure track position to
begin Fall 2020.
The successful candidate will contribute to the department's Environmental
Science and Geography curricula by developing upper-level courses in
his/her area of expertise. Desirable areas may include coastal, fluvial,
or lacustrine processes and environments (contemporary or Quaternary),
hydrology, or hydrogeology. Applicants should demonstrate: potential for
excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduates; active engagement in
research and scholarship; a commitment to public higher education;
enthusiasm for developing the curriculum and growing the department. Other
desirable qualities include an enthusiasm for developing innovative a
freshman seminar class, teaching a senior seminar, an ability to integrate
GIScience and/or remote sensing into teaching and research, and experience
in developing field courses. The successful candidate will help shape a
small, dynamic department dedicated to offering a quality liberal arts
education in a public institutional setting. We currently offer B.S.
degrees in Geography and Environmental Science, and our average class size
is 20-30. Worcester State University is part of the Massachusetts state
university system. The contractual teaching load is 12 credit hours per
semester.
*Requirements:*
Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in Geology, Physical Geography or a
related discipline by August 31, 2020, and undergraduate teaching
experience. Areas of teaching competence must include physical geology and
oceanography at the introductory level.
