Dear ES_job_net

The Climate Science program in the Department of Plants, Soils, and Climate at Utah State University (http://www.usu.edu/degrees/index.cfm?id=56) seeks an applicant for a PhD or MS student starting in Fall 2020. The recruited student will be expected to participate in a project that focuses on interdecadal prediction of climate extremes in the Southern U.S. using state-of-the-art climate models. This project involves collaboration with Dr. Simon Wang and Dr. Yoshi Chikamoto at Utah State University. The successful candidate will have a strong background in climate dynamics, a passion for research in climate variability and change, and effective communication skills to collaborate with members in the project. Computer programming skills, especially using Unix, are preferred.

Interested students should send a letter of interest and a CV to Dr. Yoshi Chikamoto at yoshi.chikamoto at usu.edu<mailto:yoshi.chikamoto at usu.edu>. Initial evaluation will start immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.

Location:
Utah State University’s main campus is located in the city of Logan in northern Utah's Cache Valley, 80 miles north of Salt Lake City. The surrounding area includes ski resorts, lakes, rivers, and mountains, which makes Cache Valley one of the finest recreational environments in the United States. For a region with a population of about 114,000, the community and the university offer a spectacular array of first-rate cultural offerings provided by visiting artists and touring companies, faculty, students, and members of the local community. In addition, Cache Valley is a very safe location as Logan ranked #1 Safest Metro in the West by Law Street, May 2015. USU is an integral part of local economies and communities in Utah, and its contributions are appreciated by local residents, resulting in a unique living-learning community.
