The Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science (CEES) at
Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a tenure-track position
in environmental science at the Assistant or Associate Professor level
beginning August 15, 2020. The ideal candidate will be collaborative and
forward-thinking with a strong interest in pursuing solutions to global
environmental challenges, such as air and water pollution; climate change;
food, water, and energy insecurity; biodiversity loss; and urbanization.
The CEES Department and Environmental Science (ENVS) Program have a strong
tradition of teaching excellence dedicated to offering our students a
balance of both applied and theoretical aspects of civil engineering and
environmental science. Together, they serve undergraduate and graduate civil
engineering students and undergraduate and graduate environmental science
students. They offer an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Civil
Engineering, a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, and
Master of Science degrees in Engineering (specializing in environmental and
water-resources engineering) and Environmental Science. See

collaborate with the Coastal Research Institute at LMU,

The successful candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in environmental
science or a closely-related field. Their responsibilities will include
teaching, advising, maintaining an active program of scholarship, and
service to the profession and university community. The typical teaching
load is three courses per semester with the possibility of a reduced
teaching load in the first two years. The successful candidate will:
. Employ strong quantitative, data analysis, modeling, remote sensing,
and/or laboratory/field skills.
. Embrace inclusivity and foster LMU's diverse community of students,
faculty & staff;
. Be expected to maintain a commitment to student teaching, advising, and
mentoring;
. Demonstrate leadership and community building to support the CEES
Department and ENVS Program;
. Develop an effective research agenda involving undergraduate and graduate
students in current and emerging areas of environmental importance;
. Teach rigorous undergraduate and graduate environmental science classes
for students in science, engineering, and the liberal and creative arts
disciplines;
. Develop new environmental science classes in areas of expertise and
emerging areas.
