Tenure-track Faculty Position in Wetlands Ecology and Management

The Department of Biology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 2020. A Ph.D. in the life sciences and postdoctoral research experience are required.

The university and department are strongly committed to achieving diversity among faculty and staff. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from members of under-represented groups and strongly encourage women and persons of color to apply for this position.

We seek candidates who will develop research focusing on the ecology of wetlands and their associated organisms, with emphases on environmental applications and a significant field component to be based in the Great Plains. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: the efficacy of management activities intended to maintain or restore wetlands, the role of wetlands in the flow and capture of carbon, nitrogen and other nutrients or contaminants within watersheds; importance of wetlands for organisms, biological communities (plant, animal or microbial communities), or ecosystems.

The successful candidate will establish an active, externally-funded research program and contribute to introductory biology or environmental science courses and senior/graduate level courses. Field-based facilities support research and teaching programs in the department; these include a 172-ha prairie preserve that includes access to a local stream system.

Located on the eastern border of Nebraska, near the Missouri River, the city of Omaha ranks highly for quality of life, affordability, and economic strength. Omaha is home to four Fortune 500 companies and numerous government and non-profit organizations. Over 1.2 million people live within a 50-mile radius.
