Department of Geophysics – Post-Doctoral Fellow – Full Time – Fiber-Optic
Sensing

Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO

Job No: 494060

The Opportunity

The Reservoir Characterization Project (RCP) is calling for applications
for a Post-Doctoral position. RCP is a 30-year-old, well established
industry-funded consortium sponsored by more than 30 oil and gas operators
and service companies. RCP, which operates as one of the oldest and most
enduring research centers in the Department of Geophysics at Colorado
School of Mines, is a geophysical research consortium dedicated to the
study of integrated reservoir characterization. Our unique model emphasizes
a multidisciplinary, collaborative team approach for practical research and
preparation of graduate students. Working closely with industry sponsors,
RCP explores new methods and technologies to gain improvements in oilfield
performance, prediction and optimization. For details on the consortium
please see http://inside.mines.edu/RCP-Home.

The research carried about by this position will be focus mainly on
fiber-optic sensing (FOS) applications in the oil industry, ranging from
seismic VSP, microseismic, low-frequency strain measurements, to production
logging, leakage detection, and artificial lift monitoring. The successful
candidate will be able to develop physical-based and machine-learning based
models to interpret FOS data. The candidate will guide graduate-level
students to advance research in the area as well as make his/her own
contributions. The candidate will also lead the Python-based software
development. RCP will provide appropriate data in the related research
areas through multiple on-going projects.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. from an accredited university and have a
strong background in Physics, Mathematics, Signal Processing and
Programming. Additional knowledge in Geophysics, Geology and Engineering
would be valuable but is not required to apply.

How To Apply
