About the College 	

Spelman College seeks teacher/scholars dedicated to excellence in 
teaching and to the continued enhancement of the academic environment 
for students and colleagues. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a 
private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The 
oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, 
Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and 
Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. All tenure-track 
candidates are expected to have a demonstrated interest in liberal arts 
and sciences education, contribute effectively to undergraduate 
teaching, assist in curriculum development, provide service to the 
department and College, as well as be active in scholarly, creative, 
and/or research productivity appropriate to a liberal arts environment.

Position Summary 	

The College invites applications to fill a tenure-track appointment in 
the Environmental and Health Sciences Program, beginning August 2020, at 
the rank of Assistant Professor. The College is seeking an experienced 
scholar with a strong background in environmental science instruction 
and research. We are looking for broad-minded geoscientists who will 
build a competitive research program that complements or extends our 
current geophysical strengths in geodesy, geomorphology, glaciology, 
seismology, hydrology, computational methods and can bridge connections 
within geophysics and ongoing and future missions through observational, 
theoretical, or modeling approaches. The potential candidate should have 
research and teaching interests in geoscience including but not limited 
to geophysics, geochemistry, geodesy, earth observation, surficial 
processes, climate change, geophysics, remote sensing, geodesy, and 
geohazards. The potential candidate should be familiar withGISand other 
essential software and tools for modeling, analysis and visualization. 
The successful candidate should be an interdisciplinary scientist who 
can collaborate with faculty within the program in areas of common 
interest for activities such as teaching (development of curriculum and 
innovative teaching materials) and research, and perform administrative 
duties. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to 
undergraduate research, experiential learning & innovative teaching, and 
proven track record in transferring her or his research experience to 
the classroom/laboratory. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an 
exceptional commitment to teaching and mentoring of students. Our 
department is linked to the Health Science Curriculum, so an 
understanding and appreciation of how geoscience connects to the 
pathophysiology of disease and environmental health is expected.
