The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University seeks to fill a research faculty position in the area of Organic Geochemistry. The rank of the position is open. Candidates whose research involves organic geochemical approaches to address questions in paleoclimate, carbon cycling, sedimentary processes, the origin and fate of organic materials in the Earth System, the evolution of life, or other geologic problems are welcomed.
The Lamont Organic Geochemistry Facility is a multi-user laboratory with extensive chemical fume hood space and equipment for the extraction, characterization, and isotopic analysis of a variety of materials. Existing equipment includes GC-FID, GC-quadrupole MSD, Accelerated Solvent Extractor, Thermo Delta V+ with ConFlo IV, TC-EA, combustion EA, and GC Isolink and Trace GC for bulk and compound-specific isotope analyses. The facility employs a full-time lab manager. A LECO comprehensive 2D GC-TOF and a Sciex Qtrap 6500+ LC/MS/MS are also available on campus.
Lamont Research Professors receive nine-month appointments with partial salary support provided from institutional sources. An incentive program encourages the establishment of a vigorous externally funded research program to provide the majority of salary support, including an opportunity for summer salary. The successful candidate will be eligible to apply for a Columbia University Climate and Life Fellowship, a three-year appointment that includes three months of salary support per year as well as a research/travel budget. Applicants should have established a high-impact, lab-based research program; demonstrated a record of significant research contributions through publications in peer-reviewed journals and success in raising external funding; and be able to contribute broadly to research at Lamont.
Candidates should provide a CV (including a list of publications), statement of research interests, list of funded projects or grant applications awaiting approval, statement of science education and outreach interests if applicable, and the names and addresses of at least three references. Evaluation of applications will continue until the position has been filled.
