Responsibilities
*As a Research Geologist within the Woods Hole Coastal & Marine Science
Center, some of your specific duties will include: *
- Conducts research on the geologic setting and processes in estuarine
and wetland regions that affect coastal change.
- Couples interacting physical, biological, and societal systems through
observations and models that produce integrated assessments of coastal
change and vulnerability.
- Translates research output into applications that support decision
making by local and national managers and decision-making.
- Develops analytical techniques to quantify coastal landscape change
including ecosystem evolution, wetland responses to climate change, and
assessment and forecasting.
- Compiles geospatial, ecological, coastal change and hazards data;
design new approaches or modifications to existing methods for
assimilating, processing, and analyzing these data.
- Develops wetland assessment tools, including original computer
software as well as modifications and extensions of existing applications.
- Recognizes, investigates, and evaluates conditions or factors that may
produce sampling or output errors, biases, or anomalies. Assesses the
validity of different procedures and techniques to correct errors or
improve results in data and methods.
- Participates in multidisciplinary research studies involving
scientists and technicians, focusing on storm-to-decadal-scale change in
wetland environments.
- Designs appropriate analytical programs for accomplishing research
objectives.
- Works with multidisciplinary teams to conceive, plan, lead, and
complete research projects, including both field-based and numerical-based
components.
- Disseminates information in peer-reviewed scientific and technical
journals, and to decision makers.
- Prepares interpretive scientific products, data products, and
scientific reports discussing the results of multidisciplinary studies and
their significance to the fields of geology, geomorphology, coastal
processes, quantitative methods, and coastal hazards.
