A position for a *Postdoctoral Research Associate* in *Organic Geochemistry* is
available in the laboratory of Dr. Jill McDermott at the Earth and
Environmental Sciences Department, Lehigh University (Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania, United States).
The postdoc will have the opportunity to work on a collaborative project
funded by the *NASA Astrobiology Institute (NAI)*

of Lehigh, and it involves multi-institutional collaboration with the
groups of Drs. Katherine Freeman and Christopher House (Penn State), John
Eiler and Alex Sessions (CalTech), James Kubicki (UTEP), Jennifer
Eigenbrode (NASA Goddard), Gordon Love (Univ. of CA, Riverside), Gerald
Remaud and Richard Robbins (France), and Naohiro Yoshida and Alexis Gilbert
(Tokyo Inst. of Tech).
The Lehigh-based postdoc will assist in the collection of samples during
multi-week oceanographic cruises and deep mine field trips.
The postdoc will be responsible for generating and analyzing *organic
geochemistry, volatile chemistry, and novel stable isotopologue datasets*,
leading the integration of results, and disseminating these results via
peer-reviewed publications, reports, and presentations at national and
international scientific conferences and professional meetings.
The postdoc will also have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate and
graduate students and become involved in other ongoing projects. The
successful candidate will be expected to develop additional project ideas
in collaboration with the PI and seek additional funding, providing
opportunities for disciplinary and cross-disciplinary career development
and networking.
Candidates should have completed a PhD in a topic relevant to the described
project (or expect to complete by July 2019). Required qualifications
include expertise and experience with a combination of* volatile and
semi-volatile organic geochemical datasets and stable isotope* analyses.
Candidates should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication
skills, a good record of productivity, and capacity to work collaboratively
as part of a team. Desired qualifications include expertise in *gas
chromatography, mass spectrometry, and sea-going or other field experience*.
The position is initially available for one year, with target start
date of *July
2019 (but dates are flexible)*, with the possibility of renewal for a
