Jacobs is NASA's largest engineering solutions provider working alongside
NASA at centers across the United States.
We have the unique and significant role to partner with NASA at Johnson
Space Center (JSC), to be part of every human spaceflight program - the
International Space Station (ISS), NASA's Orion spacecraft, which will carry
astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, the orbiting platform providing the
home for astronauts to work and travel back and forth to the moon's surface,
and serving as the platform for deep space exploration. From critical
systems on the ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to
performing advanced development for systems leading to deep space
exploration; to being part of the foundation for Gateway.
We also partner with NASA at JSC, the only NASA center in the United States
to curate all astromaterial samples returned from exploration missions, to
perform curation services, orbital debris analysis, and basic research to
further humankind's understanding of the origins of our solar system.

We are currently in need of a Science Engagement Specialist to join our team
with MTS, a JETS teammate company. Do you have the following skills?
As a Science Engagement Specialist you will:
* Plan and execute events, programs, workshops, webinars, and social
media campaigns to engage and inform educators, students, and the public
about NASA Astromaterials science, research, and exploration.
* Collaborate with Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science
(ARES)/Jacobs scientists and other partner organizations to facilitate the
sharing of relevant NASA Astromaterials and NASA Science Mission Directorate
(SMD) science and exploration efforts.
* Organize, compile, produce, and edit NASA Astromaterials relevant
content for websites, social media, exhibits, and educational (informal and
formal) materials.
* Organize and compile evaluation data.
* Travel to participate in science engagement opportunities, events,
and conferences.
* Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the
candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the
right to consider candidates at any level which this position has been
advertised.
* BS degree from an accredited college or university in Physical,
Earth or Space Science, a related geosciences discipline, Science
Communication, or Science Education and four (4) years related experience,
or MS degree in an associated technical discipline with two (2) years of
related experience, or Ph.D. in an associated technical discipline.
* 2+ years of experience in communicating science to non-scientists.
* Relevant experience in science or technical writing for the public
and/or informal or formal learning environments.
* Experience planning and executing events, programs, workshops,
webinars etc. for a variety of audiences.
* Relevant experience working with NASA Earth and Space Science
content.
* Ability to work independently as well as within interdisciplinary
teams.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Exemplary organizational skills and careful attention to detail.
* Ability to multi-task.
* Ability to independently organize and prioritize tasks in order to
meet deadlines.
* Working knowledge of and experience with MS Office.
Preferences:
* Master's Degree in Physical, Earth or Space Science, or other
geoscience discipline, or Science Communication or Science Education.
* Multiple years of K-12+ formal classroom experience working directly
with varying levels of student audiences (elementary, middle school, high
school, college).
* Experience working with informal audiences (libraries, museums,
etc.).
* Experience incorporating authentic science into K-12+ formal and/or
informal learning environments.
* Experience creating graphics and/or video products.
* Experience utilizing educational technologies.
* Experience in designing and/or participating in citizen science
projects.

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work
depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May
require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak
periods and surge requirements when required.
Other Essential Functions
Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional
behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose
a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
