What the Graduate Student Support & Mentoring Coordinator does

The Graduate Student Support & Mentoring Coordinator position is supported by a grant from the Inclusive Graduate Education Network (IGEN) project funded by the National Science Foundation to support students applying for graduate education programs through the AGU Bridge program. The AGU Bridge program promotes holistic admissions practices, facilitates graduate school applications for underrepresented minority students, and provides access to a diverse pool of graduate school applicants for qualified geoscience graduate education programs. The AGU Bridge program is part of the larger IGEN project which includes other Bridge programs in the physical sciences.

The Graduate Student Support & Mentoring Coordinator serves as a primary contact for students in the AGU Bridge program. The incumbent in this role works closely with advisors and subject matter experts to facilitate the recruitment and selection of academic partners for the AGU Bridge program and coordinates the distribution of graduate school applications received through the AGU Bridge portal to partner institutions for review, selection, and placement.

This is a 4-year full-time opportunity; subject to change due to conditional program funding.

  *   Serves as the program lead for the AGU Bridge program.
  *   Configure and oversee the AGU Bridge application portal and associated webpages.
  *   Provide oversight of student support services and programming for the AGU Bridge program including the graduate school application process, candidate selection, mentoring, and special event logistics.
  *   Serves as a primary logistics coordinator for AGU Bridge program events and programming. This includes but not limited to
  *   Representing AGU at the related program meetings
  *   Serving as logistics coordinator for AGU
  *   Traveling to special IGEN and Bridge events and other programs as requested.
  *   Updates websites and manages online application program as needed to ensure relevancy and accuracy.
  *   Manages relationships with academic partners and facilitates graduate application portfolios for graduate school admissions.
  *   Develops and analyzes compiled data as needed.
  *   Supports Fall Meeting planning and preparation related to AGU Talent Pool initiatives.
  *   Other duties as assigned.

What the  Graduate Student Support & Mentoring Coordinator brings to the team

  *   Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a project management position or related environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  *   Experience with an association management system (i.e. netForum), a conference management software (i.e. Zoom), and a content management system (i.e. WordPress, SharePoint, Decision Point, etc.) preferred.
  *   Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate easily and effectively with staff and external audiences.
  *   Ability to follow through on commitments and accept ownership of responsibilities and with utmost professionalism.
  *   Ability to be flexible in handling a wide variety of projects and assignments with changing priorities and deadlines.
  *   Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for accuracy and quality and / or fast pace.
  *   Ability to interpret, analyze, organize, and apply program policies.
  *   Demonstrated customer service skills.
  *   Strong project management skills, previous experience in program coordination is a plus.
  *   Strong organizational skills and analytical skills.
  *   Strong computer skills to include word processing and spreadsheet software.
  *   Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters and conducting himself / herself with sensitivity to both political and personnel issues.
