The Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma) located in
Victoria, BC Canada is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to undertake
original research focused on the execution and analysis of large ensembles
of simulations of the Canadian Earth System Model version 5 (CanESM5). The
research will better characterize the relative roles of natural climate
variability versus the response to changes in greenhouse gases, short-lived
climate pollutants, stratospheric ozone and other climate drivers in the
past and future. The work will build on existing work using large ensembles
to predict changes in impact-relevant variables including snow pack and
fire weather, and will support the CCCma contribution to the IPCC Sixth
Assessment Report (AR6). The researcher will also help facilitate
interactions between CCCma scientists and members of the US CLIVAR Working
Group on Large “Initial-Condition” Earth System Model Ensembles.

The researcher will be supervised by Dr. John Fyfe and fellow colleagues,
and will work in the highly stimulating and well-supported environment of
the CCCma. The CCCma is a world class Research Centre within Environment
and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). It is located on the idyllic campus of
the University of Victoria, British Columbia.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in a climate related field and
have experience in climate modelling, as well as in the analysis of
observations and large model datasets. Advanced programming,
post-processing, data management, and data analysis skills are a must.
He/she should be fluent in English. We are looking for candidates who have
graduated within the last three years (although exceptions to the
three-year rule will be considered on a case-by-case basis). The position
is offered for up to three years starting immediately. The successful
candidate will be hired as a term Scientific Research (SE-RES) employee of
Canadian Government. To view the salary scale, please refer to the SE
sub-group – Scientific Research SE-RES here:
