Hello ESWN,

We're looking for a new tenure track professor. I just started at Rutgers in this department three months ago. The faculty have been supportive and kind. The local administration is competent. The Dean of this school is phenomenal. The students are interesting and engaged. There are many pockets of funding to seed pilot research. I encourage anyone who is looking for a good place to build a career with some semblance of work-life balance to consider this position.

Cheers,
Mary Whelan

We seek outstanding applicants with a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, atmospheric chemistry, or related environmental/engineering disciplines and demonstrated ability to conduct research, to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and to mentor students. Applicants will be expected to develop an innovative, independent, and externally-funded research program that addresses topics such as those identified in the recent National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report “Environmental Engineering for the 21st Century: Addressing Grand Challenges.” Relevant research areas include, but are not limited to, design of novel air quality control techniques, air quality modeling and analysis, and sensor development and deployment.

Teaching expectations include existing or new courses in air quality modeling, air pollution control systems, instrumental methods and design, or other courses in our ABET-accredited Environmental Engineering program relevant to research interests. Applicants possessing or having the background necessary to obtain a Professional Engineering license are especially desired.

We encourage applicants who seek to develop an interdisciplinary research program that connects with faculty from other programs, departments, and units at Rutgers, including Civil & Environmental Engineering, Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, Marine and Coastal Sciences, or the School of Public Health. The successful applicant will be eligible for membership in a variety of institutes that foster collaboration among diverse research areas of potential relevance to the position, including the Institute of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences, the Rutgers Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, the Rutgers Climate Institute, and the Rutgers Energy Institute. Applicants should also have an interest in networking with professional societies and connecting students with professional networks.

DES facilities include high performance computing and an array of state-of-the-art laboratory instrumentation.
