Job Description

NREL’s National Wind Technology Center is seeking a post-doc with a strong
background in atmospheric sciences to join the atmospheric sciences team. In
particular, the post-doctoral research will focus on the Wind Forecast
Improvement project 2, which aimed at improving wind forecasts in HRRR/WRF
in complex terrain, and possibly also in the area of Meso-to-Microscale
coupling or microscale modeling. Possible other research topics can include
offshore science and the conversion of wind speeds to power, depending on
the interest of the candidate.

We offer a unique collaborative environment with world-renowned scientists
in the area of renewable energy and atmospheric sciences, in a location in
the U.S. with NOAA and NCAR close by who we collaborate with, as well as
great outdoors.

We are looking for an individual to conduct and assess simulations with WRF,
to analyze measurements, to perform model development within the WRF model,
and to identify and tackle the latest research questions in atmospheric
sciences and wind energy. The candidate should have a strong and broad
knowledge in atmospheric physics, ideally in the area of complex terrain
flows and mountain meteorology. The successful candidate is further expected
to demonstrate a broad understanding of atmospheric principles, theories,
and concepts.

The preferred candidate will have experience with the WRF model, with
validating model output with observations, and with observational analysis.

Knowledge in atmospheric turbulence, uncertainty quantification, atmospheric
stability, and microscale (LES) modeling are an advantage. General knowledge
of wind energy related disciplines and applications are preferred.

The candidate will have excellent writing, interpersonal, and communication
skills and will be expected to publish results in high-impact technical
journals and present work at conferences, symposia, and review meetings.
