Summary of Duties


The researcher will contribute to the operation and enhancement of the WSU AIRPACT air quality forecast system and with various related regional modeling projects. The successful applicant will also coordinate two funded summer undergraduate research programs related to air quality and climate change and renewable energy research.

Washington State University, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Laboratory for Atmospheric Research (LAR) invite applications for a post-doctoral researcher on the Pullman campus with an effective start date as early as October 1, 2018. Funding has been identified for one year and further extension is possible. Required Qualifications


Candidates are sought with expertise in numerical modeling related to air quality, atmospheric chemistry, and climate change at urban to regional scales. The successful applicant must have experience with WRF, WRF-Chem, and/or CMAQ or comparable modeling systems.
Additional position requirements include:
1) expertise with urban to regional scale meteorological and atmospheric chemistry & transport models (WRF, WRF-Chem, and/or CMAQ), and their applications to air quality, atmospheric chemistry, and/or climate change,
2) research accomplishments reflecting graduate student/postdoctoral efforts, demonstrated by peer reviewed publications,
3) Ph.D. or equivalent degree earned in a relevant science or engineering field, and
4) interest in mentoring undergraduates and coordinating their full-time summer research experience.

Preferred Qualifications


Other desirable qualifications include experience with: emissions preparation, remote sensing and in situ observations applied to evaluation and improvement of models and forecast systems, machine learning applied to air quality.
