Position Summary

The part-time Learning and Teaching Coordinator for the Department of Chemistry, Physics, Atmospheric Sciences & Geoscience will develop and pilot a series of critical thinking skill assessments and strategic interventions.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education

Must have an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Pure or Applied Logic, Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, Computation and Methodology of Science, or other program grounded in the interrogation of evidence and argument using formal logic.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

* Develop and pilot a series of critical thinking skill assessments and strategic interventions for use with: undergraduate departmental majors, undergraduates enrolled in departmental gatekeeper courses, and graduate students TAs and junior faculty.
* Collaborate with faculty and instructional staff in developing scientific literacy and critical thinking skills components to be incorporated into weekly meeting of students in the department's three primary disciplines (Chemistry, Physics and Atmospheric Sciences).
* Collaborate with faculty and instructional staff to develop targeted scientific literacy/critical thinking rubrics for use in assessing these skills amount; undergraduates in STEM courses from groups underrepresented in STEM.
* Pilot assess interventions and rubrics; Report on outcomes to funding agency, as well as in peer reviewed STEM education jjournals.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
