Postdoctoral Fellow, Crop Modeling, UV-B Monitoring and Research Program (UVMRP), Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, CSU

The USDA UV-B Monitoring and Research Program (UVMRP) at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, Colorado State University seeks a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow. The successful candidate will focus on the development, validation, and application of an advanced dynamic large-scale ecological modeling system using theoretical concepts and techniques from numerical modeling. This will involve incorporating solar UV radiation as a new abiotic stress factor into an ecological model and how changes in UV radiation levels can directly and indirectly effect; crops, ecosystems and humans. This position is supported by a USDA grant that funds the UVMRP and operation of a UV and visible radiation monitoring network that collects direct, diffuse and total solar radiation at 40 locations in the US, Canada and New Zealand.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have earned a Ph.D ecosystem ecology, agronomy sciences, environmental science or mathematics/statistics, and a strong background in numerical modeling.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience and skills with programming languages such as C/C++, FORTRAN, Matlab, and/or Python for numerical computation. Experience with FORTRAN and distributed computing is a plus. Analytical skills in model testing, calibration, and validation. Detailed understanding of biogeochemical models like DayCent, GOSSYM, DSSAT, Pnet. Experience in modifying these models is a plus. Knowledge of plant physiology such as production, nutrient cycling, decomposition and other related processes and their sensitivity to environmental and climatic variability. Experience in publishing scientific findings in refereed journals, and making presentations at scientific conferences. Excellent written communication skills are desired.

This long-term program has been running for over 20 years. Funding of the position is dependent upon continued federal support that is renewed on an annual basis. The position will be filled at the Postdoctoral Fellow level with a salary in the range of $44,000-$50,000 per year with benefits. Start date will be as soon as practical upon selection of a candidate.

To apply, submit a statement of interest in this position, including how your experience fulfills qualification requirements, a resume, and names and contact information for three references, including, but not limited to, current and/or past supervisors, at the following address: https://jobs.colostate.edu/postings/60879. References will not be contacted without prior notification to candidates. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but to ensure full consideration applications should be submitted by November 5, 2018.
