[ES_JOBS_NET] Post-doc Position at LLNL - GCM cloud/turbulence physics development

We have an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to work in the area of atmospheric general circulation model (GCM) development with the goal of improving the representation of clouds by implementing a novel adaptive vertical grid enhancement technique. This position is in the Cloud Processes Research and Modeling group in the Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Division.
Essential Duties
- Conduct creative and independent ground breaking model development pertaining to the representation of clouds and turbulence in atmospheric GCMs.
- Conduct analysis on the representation of clouds from atmospheric GCMs compared to observations.
- Publish research results in technical reports and peer-reviewed journals and present technical results at scientific conferences.
- Travel as required to coordinate research with collaborators.
- Pursue complementary research interests through independent collaborations with other scientists and technical staff both internal and external.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Recent PhD in atmospheric science or closely related discipline.
- Experience conducting research in atmospheric science or closely related discipline.
- Experience in atmospheric GCM development and/or analysis.
- Experience in cloud process research and/or cloud and turbulence parameterization.
- Experience with running and analyzing atmospheric numerical models.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by published results and presentations.
- Ability to work independently as well as in multidisciplinary research teams and to collaborate productively with diverse scientific colleagues both internal and external to the LLNL.
