Description

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop and apply novel analytical instrumentation in atmospheric research. This position requires expertise in optical instrumentation, its application in laboratory and field experiments, and data interpretation and reporting of scientific results. The position is located in the Chemical Sciences Division (CSD) of the NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado.

The successful candidate will operate, maintain, and improve instrumentation based on cavity enhanced spectroscopy, as required to address specific atmospheric trace gas and aerosol science goals in laboratory and field settings. The candidate will further undertake analysis, publication and presentation of the data generated during field intensives and laboratory work. The candidate will use results from these analyses, and skills related to analytical instrument development, to identify and pursue new areas of research pertinent to the scientific mission of CIRES and NOAA CSD. The candidate will be required to work both independently and in a collaborative role with other investigators as project needs dictate. The candidate will be expected to participate in remote field deployments of approximately 4-6 weeks duration approximately every other year. The initial appointment will be for 2 years with the possibility of extension following exemplary performance. This position has a notional start date of 01 June 2018 but may be adjusted depending on candidate availability.
