Job Description:
The College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources at the
University of Nevada, Reno seeks applications for a nine-month,
tenure-track, Assistant Professorship in Water Management and Irrigation.
The water management and irrigation position provides education, research,
and outreach related to allocating and managing water resources in
agricultural, rangeland and wildland systems. The emphasis of this position
is to develop solutions to improve the efficiency of water use including
water management, irrigation, and water quality using innovative approaches
and cutting-edge technologies that can be applied at the field and
landscape scale. The position could encompass a wide range of water-related
issues, including:
- agricultural water distribution and storage systems,
- irrigation efficiency,
- competing demands for water in agricultural, urban and rural areas,
- drought impact adaptation and mitigation,
- ecosystem and species resiliency to changing climate,
- restoration, and
- water sources for livestock grazing and wildlife.
The successful candidate in this position will be housed in either the
department of Agriculture, Nutrition and Veterinary Sciences or department
of Natural Resources and Environmental Science depending upon research
expertise and interests. They will also have an appointment in the Nevada
Agricultural Experiment Station, The incumbent will be expected to develop
a nationally recognized research program and provide undergraduate and
graduate teaching in the area of water management and irrigation; will have
a demonstrated research and teaching record; and will be expected to
develop a close working relationship with the University of Nevada
Cooperative Extension. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability
to work effectively in informal and formal teams with individuals from
diverse communities and cultures.

Required Qualifications:
Successful candidates must have completed a Ph.D. by the date of hire with
training in a discipline related to water management. Successful candidates
must have a strong publication record and demonstrated potential to develop
an externally funded, nationally-competitive research program. Candidates
must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching. Successful
candidates must have expertise that complements and expands the research
capacity in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources
and contributes to the University of Nevadas goals for excellence in
teaching, research, outreach and engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Postdoctoral experience. Teaching or mentoring experience. Demonstrated
experience with outreach and engagement.
