Atmospheric/Climate Dynamics 

Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Cornell University 

 

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure-track. 

 

Location: Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853-5701. The academic home for
this position is the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences in the
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (jointly located in the College of
Engineering) 

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) at Cornell University
invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in
the subject of atmospheric or climate dynamics. The successful candidate
will develop a high-quality research program investigating atmospheric
systems and processes from weather to seasonal to climate time scales.
Research areas could include, but not be limited to, climate-weather or
ocean-atmosphere interactions. Preferred candidates would use idealized
approaches or a hierarchy of models to better understand atmospheric/
climate dynamics. The position is one of what is expected to be a series of
new appointments as part of a commitment to a major faculty renewal in EAS.
Candidates at the Assistant Professor level are preferred, but exceptional
candidates at other levels will be considered. 

 

The selected candidate will be a committed educator, enthusiastically
teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising undergraduate and
graduate students, and supervising students at all levels in research. The
ideal candidate will be able to interact in teaching and research with
colleagues having similar interests at Cornell University, particularly in
the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences and of Engineering, in which
the Department of EAS is jointly located. This is a nine-month,
tenure-track, academic year professorial position in the College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences. The responsibilities of the position will be
50% research and 50% teaching. 

 

A Ph.D. in atmospheric, climate or ocean sciences, or a related science or
engineering discipline is required.
