*Postdoctoral researcher position on drought predictability *
**
The State University of New York (SUNY) University at Albany’s
Atmospheric Sciences Research Center invites applications for a
postdoctoral researcher (PDRA) position on drought predictability in the
southern Great Plains. The selected candidate will lead coupled regional
modeling experiments using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF)
model as part of an interdisciplinary team of hydrologists and
meteorologists. The specific objective of the project is to improve
understanding of how local (land) and remote (SST) drought drivers
interact across weather-climate time scales and local-continental
spatial scales and collectively influence drought in the southern Great
Plains.
The ideal candidate will have: strong programming skills in a Unix/Linux
environment; experience using coupled regional models such as WRF; and
understanding of mesoscale and synoptic meteorology, large-scale
atmospheric (climate) dynamics, planetary boundary layer processes, and
drought mechanisms.
The position is available from September 2017 for an initial appointment
of one year with possibility of extension for up to two additional
years. To be eligible, applicants must have received their doctoral
degree in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Hydrology or other
climate-related science since September 2014.
