The *College of the Environment* has an outstanding opportunity for an
*Assistant
Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. * The Assistant Dean for
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion works to position the College of the
Environment as a national leader in the establishment of programs to
increase the participation and engagement of diverse groups in the
development of environmental knowledge and practice. In so doing, the
Assistant Dean will help to expand the boundaries, definitions and practice
of environmental science and environmental studies as inclusive of
problem-based learning, community-based and placed-based research,
team-based work, and an expanded focus on equity and justice. The Assistant
Dean will provide leadership and coordination to create an environment that
supports and enhances a diverse faculty, staff, and student body in the
College of the Environment.
Primary responsibilities of the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and
Inclusion are:
• Provide leadership and coordination of the College’s diversity, equity
and inclusion programs and services.
• Represent the College at local, regional and national levels as a leader
and innovator in diversity programming.
• Manage grantsmanship and fundraising efforts for new diversity, access
and inclusion programs in the College in collaboration with College
leadership and the Advancement team.
• Manage and collaborate with academic affairs staff across the College to
enhance ongoing efforts to recruit and retain outstanding students,
increase the presence of historically underrepresented students in the
College, and foster an environment that encourages the success of every
student.
• Work with academic programs in the College to explore and implement
courses and curricula than incorporate dimensions of equity and justice.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Education, or field related to
diversity, equity, and inclusion work, and six or more years’ related
experience that demonstrates:
• Visionary and highly collaborative leadership skills, with an
in-depth understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion issues and
opportunities in the environmental sciences, broadly defined.
• Proven record of engaging ethnically and culturally diverse
communities.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Successful history of managing collaborative working relationships
with faculty, staff and academic leaders as well as community groups.
• Proven record of fundraising from private foundation as well as
government agencies
• Experience working in or in collaboration with institutions of higher
education
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum
qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as
license/certification/registration.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position does require some travel for outreach into communities served
by the University.
