*A new postdoctoral position at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences,
University of Utah*
The successful candidate will join a well-established research team in
atmospheric modeling and data assimilation and work collaboratively with
scientists at the University of Utah, NOAA, and broad community during
the Years of the Maritime Continent (YMC). The specific research
project involves multi-scale variabilities and interactions of
atmospheric convection on the diurnal, synoptic, intraseasonal, and
seasonal scales in the Maritime Continent region using numerical
simulations and data assimilation at a cloud-permitting scale.
Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences or
relevant fields, a strong mathematics and physics background, excellent
writing skills, proficiency with atmospheric and/or coupled
atmospheric-ocean-land models, familiarity with numerical modeling and
advanced data assimilation systems such as WRF, WRFDA, GSI, and strong
programming abilities (familiarity with Linux, FORTRAN, IDL or Matlab,
and Python are desirable). Previous research experiences in mesoscale
convective systems, radar data assimilation, and Madden-Julian
Oscillation (MJO) are helpful.
The position can be started as early as September 1, 2017, though the
starting date is negotiable based on mutual interests. The initial
appointment will be for one year, renewable dependent on the performance
and availability of funding. Salary will be competitive based on
experience and qualification. The University of Utah offers competitive
benefits. The position is open now until filled and full consideration
will be given to applications received by July 10, 2017.
To apply for the position, please submit a complete CV, a letter
expressing research interests, and the names and contact information of
3 references to Prof. Zhaoxia Pu (Zhaoxia.Pu at utah.edu).
This position will require the successful completion of a criminal
background check. The University of Utah is an Affirmative Action/Equal
Opportunity employer.
