university of distinction. Recognized as a university on the move, Boise
State is the largest university in Idaho, with enrollment of more than
22,000 students. The University is located in the heart of Idaho’s
capital city, a growing metropolitan area that serves as the government,

*About the Position:*
Interested applicants are encouraged to apply for a tenure-track faculty
position in human-environment systems science. Competitive candidates
will demonstrate capacity, expertise, and interest in quantitative
approaches to analyzing the interlinkages among social, biological, and
physical systems, with the goal of addressing some of our most pressing
sustainability challenges. We seek candidates who develop and apply
innovative strategies to describe, understand, and predict the dynamics
of human-environment systems, including but not limited to, agent-based,
dynamical, process-based and geospatial modeling, mixed-methods, and
other innovative techniques for integrating models or data. Candidates
with training and skills from the disciplines of geography, geoscience,
climate science, social sciences, engineering, and computational and
data sciences are particularly encouraged.
The new faculty member will work closely with existing faculty in
ourHuman-Environment Systems <https://cid.boisestate.edu/hes/>Institute.
This position is part of a statewide, NSF-funded, effort to build
expertise in human-environment systems science. With Boise State’s new
College of Innovation and Design as a home, the candidate will have the
opportunity to collaboratively build an integrated research and teaching
center focusing on coupled human-environment systems. The center weaves
together biophysical and social science knowledge and skills to develop
solutions to society’s most challenging environmental problems. Boise
State University is committed to building a culturally diverse faculty
and strongly encourages applications from female and minority candidates.
*Research: *
Successful candidates will be able to 1) build a strong collaborative
(team science) research program that integrates the social, physical,
and computational sciences and engineering, 2) secure extramural
funding, 3) create knowledge to meet challenges at the human-environment
interface, 4) disseminate that knowledge through high-impact
publications and other, less traditional, mechanisms, and 5) help
develop a leading program in human-environment systems science. We are
particularly interested in applicants who can contribute to Boise
State’s academic excellence by developing an integrated program of
research, teaching, and service that also broadens participation and
diversity to more effectively address the complex challenges of coupled
human-environment systems.

*Teaching:*

education and develop innovative approaches to teaching undergraduate
and graduate students. Successful candidates may develop hybridized,
flipped, and/or online class formats as well as short courses and
workshops. Courses will be offered through the College of Innovation and
Design and collaborating departments. Expected teaching load is
nominally two classes per year. Teaching responsibilities will be
aligned with the candidates' training and will emphasize the interface
of human-environment sciences.
We welcome applicants at the Assistant Professor level and also
encourage exceptional candidates exhibiting a proven record of
excellence in obtaining extramural research funding, scholarly
productivity, and teaching at the Associate Professor level.
