POSTDOC OPENING, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

The department of Physical Oceanography at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is seeking a Postdoctoral Investigator to join their team. This is a full-time position and is eligible for benefits. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of an extension for an additional year based on satisfactory performance.

JOB SUMMARY:
Research will involve studying physical-biological interactions using three-dimensional modeling of ocean dynamics and analysis of in situ data from autonomous platforms. The project will further understanding of the relationship between ocean physics and the biological pump. The postdoctoral investigator will study oceanic submesoscale processes and their implications for export of particulate organic matter as part of a NASA funded collaboration between Drs. A. Mahadevan (WHOI), D. Nicholson (WHOI), M. Omand (U.Rhode Island), A. Thompson (Caltech) and A. Martin (NOC Southampton). The postdoc will play a key role in the design and execution of research and the interpretation of scientific results, which will contribute to the EXPORTS campaign.

The institution has a top-rated postdoctoral program (www.whoi.edu/postdoctoral/ <http://www.whoi.edu/postdoctoral/>) that supports a dynamic postdoctoral community with formal mentoring and career guidance programs. While the primary focus of the work will be in research, the postdoctoral investigator will have an opportunity to participate in educational and outreach activities associated with the project.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
•	Ph.D.
•	Experience with numerical modeling, Lagrangian modeling, analysis of in situ oceanographic data and model output, and visualization is desirable.
•	Strong computer and programming skills for numerical ocean modeling, data analysis and visualization.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively.

SPECIAL APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Applications should include, as a single pdf file, a cover letter describing research interests and career goals, a curriculum vita, up to three relevant publications, and names and contact information for three references.
