The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California. The University opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. In keeping with the mission of the University to provide teaching, research and public service of the highest quality, UC Merced offers research-centered and student-oriented educational opportunities at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels through three academic schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Humanities/Arts.

The Sierra Nevada Research Institute's Climate Communication Center is looking for an outstanding individual to develop and contribute to collaborative research and outreach efforts in the area of applied climate and social science.

The successful candidate will contribute to applied climate science research projects and understand diverse stakeholders' needs for climate information in agriculture, water and land management areas and developing research methodologies and tools for effective climate communications. This individual will also assist in conducting public outreach events, such as climate communication workshops. At the events, the scholar will gather stakeholders' opinion and need for climate information through focus groups and interviews, as well as extending research knowledge through various sources. The ideal candidate will possess well-developed analytical and programming skills who can work independently in collecting and analyzing data utilizing statistical, computational and qualitative methodologies. The candidate will be expected to publish results in high impact journals and generate external funding to support research efforts. Publications in high impact journals and interdisciplinary experience are critical for this position.


Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in a social science discipline, such as: sociology, social psychology, geography, communications, human dimensions is required. Candidates with a strong understanding of agricultural and natural resource systems, as well as broad social science methodological competence and excellent communication stills, are desired. Scholars with the ability to work independently and prior publication record and grant writing experience highly preferred.
