The University of Exeter has a vacancy for a postdoctoral researcher on
Earth system modelling

The University of Exeter is a Russell Group University in the top one
percent of institutions globally. In the last few years we have invested
strategically to deliver more than GBP 350 million worth of new
facilities across our campuses with plans for another GBP 330 million of
investment between now and 2016.
The College wishes to recruit a Research Fellow to participate in the
CRESCENDO project. This EU/Horizon 2020 funded post is available
immediately, for 36 months.
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on JULES, the land
surface component of the UK Earth System Model (UK-ESM). Research will
be on the representation of the land nitrogen cycle or on land use and
management, depending on the candidate expertise. In addition, the
candidate will evaluate and analyse model simulations as part of the
Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6). The candidate is expected
to present his/her work at project meetings and international
conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals. This work will be
carried out as part of the EU/H2020 CRESCENDO project. CRESCENDO
involves 25 European institutes and includes the seven leading European
Earth system models.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD equivalent
qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful
applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in Earth System
sciences and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline
to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful
applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work
of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will need to
have robust expertise in programming and numerical modelling applied to
Earth system sciences
