The Division of Marine Science (DMS) at the University of Southern
Mississippi invites applicants for M.S. or Ph.D. studies in Chemical
and/or Paleo- Oceanography beginning in Fall 2017. We seek a skilled and
motivated individual for exciting opportunities to work on marine
science or climate problems involving geochemistry, isotopes, the carbon
cycle and the ocean’s geologic past. There are opportunities for field
work at sea. A strong background in Chemistry and/or Geology would be
beneficial.
Interested candidates should contact Dr. Christopher T. Hayes at
Christopher.T.Hayes at usm.edu and attach a resume or curriculum vitae, GRE
score (unofficial acceptable), college transcripts (unofficial
acceptable), and a brief statement of research interests.
Founded in 1910, Southern Miss is a Carnegie Research University and was
designated in 1981 as Mississippi’s flagship university for marine
science by the Institutions of Higher Learning. The Division of Marine
Science was founded in 1985 as the Center for Marine Science and in 1986
relocated to the John C. Stennis Space Center on Mississippi’s Gulf
Coast. Stennis is a “federal city” of roughly 5,000 employees that
boasts the world’s largest concentration of oceanographers, housing
offices for NASA, U.S. Navy, NOAA, and the USGS. Department faculty
expertise is multidisciplinary and includes biologists, chemists,
geologists, physicists and hydrographers. Learn more at
