Professional Engineer I
This position performs advanced and specialized environmental engineering work.

DESCRIPTION
The Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Water Resource Management's Source and Drinking Water Program is looking for a full-time Professional Engineer I.  This position performs advanced and specialized environmental engineering work. Duties involve implementing the State of Florida's Public Water System Supervision program in accordance with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) regulations and Department rules. The incumbent of this position must be licensed as a Professional Engineer by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides technical assistance and training to the Department's district offices, approved county health departments (ACHDs) that are delegated to administer the State of Florida's drinking water program, and the regulated community. Technical assistance includes engineering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and permitting issues related to public water systems.
Assists the Source and Drinking Water Program with the development and maintenance of uniform design review and permitting procedures for use by the Department's district offices and ACHDs in permitting the construction of public water systems.
Coordinates the development of amendments to the State of Florida's drinking water rules and coordinates with data management staff to update and maintain necessary database modifications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required

  *   Thorough understanding of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of environmental engineering as related to potable water treatment, storage, and distribution, including engineering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and permitting issues related to public water systems.
  *   Thorough understanding of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act; ability to understand and apply applicable state rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to multiple environmental programs.
  *   Possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including: preparing technical, programmatic, and guidance materials.
  *   Skilled at planning, organizing, and coordinating work priorities and managing time effectively.
  *   Skilled at producing high-quality work assignments with minimal revision and supervision.
  *   Demonstrates strong skills and initiative in all facets of work, including: identifying, researching, and solving complex problems.
  *   Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Software, as well as with industry database applications and various electronic devices.
  *   Ability to comply with the Department's public service and behavioral standards, including: identify and meet the needs of customers in order to provide excellent customer service; enhance and contribute to the Department's strategic goals and visions; maintain active and productive participation in meetings and discussions; positively embrace change; and take responsibility for promoting and ensuring personal and organizational success.
  *   Ability to deal with others in a tactful and courteous manner to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships.
  *   Must be able to perform overnight travel, if required.
