The Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland,
College Park, is looking for a lecturer to teach GEOG441 =96 The Coastal =
Ocean
(course description below) starting in Spring 2016. Time and day is
somewhat flexible, and there will be a possibility to renew.=20=20
GEOG441 -- The Coastal Ocean -- Introduction to coastal oceanography,
focusing on the physical, biological, and geological aspects of ocean are=
as
on the inner continental shelves. Wave, currents, and tidal dynamics of
bays, open coast, estuaries, and deltas. Sedimentary environments of majo=
r
coastal types. Ecology and biogeochemical relationships, including benthi=
c
and planktonic characteristics. Coastal evolution with sea level rise. Hu=
man
impacts: eutrophication, modification of sedimentation. The coastal futur=
e:
rising sea level, hypoxia, and increased storminess.

Ideally, this course would complement two other courses, AOSC375 =96
Introduction to The Blue Ocean; and ENSP342 =96 Environmental Threats to
Oceans and Coasts: Policy Responses, which students take who are enrolled=
in
Environmental Science: Marine and Coastal Management, and Geographical Sc=
iences.
