The Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland,<br>
College Park, is looking for a lecturer to teach GEOG441 =96 The Coastal =<br>
Ocean<br>
(course description below) starting in Spring 2016. Time and day is<br>
somewhat flexible, and there will be a possibility to renew.=20=20<br>
<br>
GEOG441 -- The Coastal Ocean -- Introduction to coastal oceanography,<br>
focusing on the physical, biological, and geological aspects of ocean are=<br>
as<br>
on the inner continental shelves. Wave, currents, and tidal dynamics of<br>
bays, open coast, estuaries, and deltas. Sedimentary environments of majo=<br>
r<br>
coastal types. Ecology and biogeochemical relationships, including benthi=<br>
c<br>
and planktonic characteristics. Coastal evolution with sea level rise. Hu=<br>
man<br>
impacts: eutrophication, modification of sedimentation. The coastal futur=<br>
e:<br>
rising sea level, hypoxia, and increased storminess.<br>

Ideally, this course would complement two other courses, AOSC375 =96<br>
Introduction to The Blue Ocean; and ENSP342 =96 Environmental Threats to<br>
Oceans and Coasts: Policy Responses, which students take who are enrolled=<br>
in<br>
Environmental Science: Marine and Coastal Management, and Geographical Sc=<br>
iences.<br>
