POSITION DESCRIPTION:
JOB PURPOSE:
A Post-doctoral research associate position is available at Clemson
University to work and lead a recently funded project that will
investigate the consequences of different fuel reduction techniques, as
watershed management practices against wildfire, on the exports of
dissolved organic matter (DOM) from forested watersheds and associated
biogeochemical processes and impacts on drinking water treatability and
supplies. This project seeks to connect basic and applied sciences,
engineering, forestry, hydrology, and chemistry to identify forest
management practices to protect our potable source waters due to climate
change. The associate will work in an interdisciplinary team
environment, interacting with the research groups of Drs. Tanju Karanfil
and Alex Chow and other researchers in US Forest Services and SC
Department of Natural Resources.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Plan and conduct assigned research tasks independently while working
collaboratively with Clemson faculty, staffs, post docs, and students,
as well as US Forest Service and SC DNR collaborators. E/10%
2. Train, mentor, and lead graduate and undergraduate students working
on the project. E/5%
3. Travel to field sites for in-situ instrumentation maintenance (e.g.
CDOM sensors) and field sample collections after prescribed burn and
mechanical thinning treatments. E/25%
4. Characterize DOM using different techniques and determine water
treatability of different source waters including understanding of
disinfection byproduct formation (e.g., THMs and NDMA). E/30%
5. Prepare project reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed
publications, and present research findings at national and
international conferences. E/25%
6. Other duties as assigned. E/5%
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must hold a PhD in environmental science, environmental
engineering, hydrogeology, soil science, agricultural and
biological/biosystems engineering, forest engineering, or a closely
related discipline at the time of employment.
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hrs: 37.5; ($ 40,000.00 - $ 45,000.00)

Employees who are in time limited positions will earn one and
one-quarter days of Annual and Sick Leave per month for a total of
