ALABAMA, TUSCALOOSA 35487-0322. The University of Alabama, Department of
Geography invites applications for a full time staff position: Geographic
Information Services Manager. This position is responsible for the day to
day operations of the University Map Library, a collection of maps, air
photos and geospatial data, and requires management of: student employees
and interns; budgets; map library reference service; collection
development; and public relations. Duties include enhancing the digital
collection, coordinating with the Cartographic Research Center for program
development, and obtaining grant and contract funding to support Geographic
Information Services, including funding for outreach and educational
programs. This is a major support position for the Department of Geography (see
geography.ua.edu). A Master’s degree in Geography or closely related
discipline at time of appointment is required. The University of Alabama is
rapidly growing (37,100 students) and our Geographic Services Initiative is
intended to support our students, staff and faculty, in particular, and the
public in general. The University of Alabama has been designated a Center
of Academic Excellence by the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, and
we are just completing renovation of a new geospatial analysis
laboratory. Formal
