Title: AIR POLLUTION SPECIALIST
Salary: $4,204.00 - $8,136.00
Posted: 05/13/2015
Job Description:
*DUTIES: *
The Climate Action and Research Planning Section has an immediate opening
for a dynamic and motivated staff person to guide research meant to inform
the agency’s air pollution and climate programs. The Section provides an
exciting work environment with highly motivated staff, and serves as an
agency-wide resource for developing the Board’s annual research plan,
develops tools and guidance for local governments, small businesses, and
others to help California meet its climate goals, and performs and guides
novel research on sustainable communities, green buildings, advanced clean
cars, and low carbon fuels.

The selected candidate will initially be responsible for developing and
coordinating cutting-edge scientific and technical research to support the
Board’s decision-making related to advanced technology vehicles, low carbon
fuels, and other priority topic areas related to ARB’s climate and air
quality policies and programs. The candidate should be able to guide
research within the context of relevant state policies and programs, and
should be cognizant of the complexities of transitioning to zero- and
near-zero emission vehicles and fuels, and understand how these policies
intersect with land use/transportation planning and building codes, the
roles that technology, infrastructure, and human behavior play in these
transitions, and the implications for air quality and climate change.

The incumbent must be committed to working closely with other ARB staff,
other State agencies, academics, and other stakeholders. The selected
candidate will contribute significantly to the development of ARB’s annual
research plan and will be responsible for collaboratively identifying
research needs and managing external research contracts to perform targeted
research that supports the Air Resources Board’s policies to reduce air
pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This position requires coordination
with academia, government, and other environmental organizations to keep
ARB apprised of the current state of research in these areas, and the
candidate should be comfortable making presentations and communicating the
section’s objectives to nontechnical persons.

*DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:*
The selected individual is expected to contribute significantly to the
climate change and research planning responsibilities of the Section. The
most competitive candidates will have a strong educational background in
public policy, environmental science, economics, climate change, and air
quality. Desirable qualifications include: strong written and verbal
communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team and
independently, strong organizational skills, aptitude to develop and
present written and verbal reports to stakeholders, and the ability to work
effectively with industry, government agencies, and the public. The
selected candidate must be a team player with a positive attitude,
dedication, and a desire to make original and sustained contributions to
ARB.

*WHO MAY APPLY:*
All applications will be screened and only the most qualified candidates
will be interviewed. Some or all of the required qualifications listed
above may be tested via a written exercise prior to oral interviews. This
vacancy may be subject to SROA/Surplus provisions. Surplus applicants must
attach a copy of their surplus letter with a completed standard State
application (STD 678). On page one of your State application, under Job
Title for which you are applying, please include the Working Title and
Position Number listed, and you must clearly indicate the basis of your
eligibility: list appointment, transfer, SROA, surplus, re-employment, or
reinstatement.

To apply, please submit an original State Application (STD. 678), copies of
your degree(s) and any other relevant documents (e.g. unofficial
transcript, resume, etc.) to the attention of Marianne Ceballos at the
address below. Please reference position #673-363-3887-006 on the
application.
