Dear colleagues,

please see below for a PostDoc position advertised by the Soil Science
group (Prof. Koegel-Knabner) at TU Muenchen in Germany.
Please feel free to send this to everybody who might be interested in the
project.

With best regards,

PostDoc position in Soil Science

We advertize a PostDoc position in Soil Science at the Technische
Universität München (Lehrstuhl für Bodenkunde,) in collaboration with the
priority program 1315 (http://www.spp1315.uni-jena.de/). The earliest
starting date is January 1st 2014. Salary is TV-L E13 (100%) according to
the German TV-L system (Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst der
Länder) according to the regulations of the German Science Foundation. This
position gives a 3-year opportunity to develop new conceptual and modelling
approaches in a group focusing on the development of soil organo-mineral
structural associations in soils. The postdoc will be located with the
group of Prof. Ingrid Kögel-Knabner at Freising-Weihenstephan, nearby
Munich in southern Bavaria.

Description:

The formation of soil structure is controlled, among other factors, by the
type of particle surfaces present and the assemblage of organic matter and
mineral particles. The research will be assigned to research projects
funded by the German Science Foundation to combine existing experimental
work with a modelling approach The modelling will be based on i) existing
data and ii) data collected by other members of the priority program 1315.
A unique dataset is available on the development and the dynamics of soil
interface structures in the different projects contributing to this
experiment. The task for the postdoc is an integrated analysis based on a
conceptual model and multivariate statistics that will help to understand
overall processes leading to the biogeochemical properties of interfaces in
soil, that are the basis for their functions in ecosystems.

Required experience:

A PhD in geosciences, geoecology, biology, agriculture, environmental
sciences or a related discipline is required. The candidate should be
highly motivated and willing to work with a team of scientists in an
integrative approach. Expertise in process-based soil modelling and
statistics are required, as well as good communication and publication
skills. Fluency in spoken and written English, knowledge of German is
advantageous.

Start Date: anticipated earliest date 1st of January 2014

Applications:

Applications for this position will be accepted immediately until the
deadline October 15, 2013. Please send your application as one single pdf
file including letter of motivation, CV, publication list, copies of your
two most important papers, copies of degrees, and names and contact details
of at least two referees via email to: Prof. Dr. Ingrid Kögel-Knabner (
koegel at wzw.tum.de).
