CEDAR email: GEM 2025 Sessions for the Kinetic Plasma Processes in the Magnetotail during Substorm Dynamics (KiTS) Focus Group

The KiTS Focus Group will be soliciting talks for 3 joint sessions at the joint CEDAR/GEM Workshop this summer. Please send an email to Jason Derr (jason.derr at westpoint.edu<mailto:jason.derr at westpoint.edu>) by June 19 if you are interested in presenting at one of the following sessions:



6/23/2025 (Mon) 4:00pm-6:00pm: Joint session between KiTS, RX, MESO, and CEDAR on substorm onset. This is a broad topic and we hope to have ~10 minute long presentations on varied subjects including, but not limited to, magnetic reconnection, current sheet instabilities, in situ observations, ionospheric observations, and preconditioning of the magnetosphere.



6/27/2025 (Fri) 10am-12pm: Joint session between KiTS, MESO, and CEDAR on Magnetotail and Ionosphere Structure and Dynamics Inferred from Low-Altitude and Ground-Based Observations.



6/27/2025 (Fri) 1:30pm-3:30pm Joint session between KiTS and COMP on thin current sheets throughout the solar system.



There will also be a session on 6/23/2025 (Mon) 1:30pm-3:30pm consisting of four panelists (Mikhail Sitnov, Kazuo Shiokawa, Jesper Gjerloev, and Tuija Pulkkinen). The topic of this conversation will also be on substorm onset and we hope to continue the discussion in the session immediately following this one as listed above.
