The special issue “Characterization of the geomagnetic field and its 
dynamic environment using data from space-based magnetometers” published 
in Springer's Earth, Planets and Space has collected articles that deal 
with the calibration and application of non-dedicated magnetometer data 
at LEO for Earth and space sciences. All articles are open access and 
the applied calibrated magnetometer data are publicly available.
