Good afternoon all

We hope that this email finds you keeping well in these burdened times.

We are excited to announce a 2020 CEDAR (virtual) session: "Data Science in
CEDAR!"

<http://cedarweb.vsp.ucar.edu/wiki/index.php/2020_Workshop:Data_Science_in_CEDAR#Structure_and_Plans_to_Innovate_Virtual_Interactions>
Full details of the session are here
<http://cedarweb.vsp.ucar.edu/wiki/index.php/2020_Workshop:Data_Science_in_CEDAR#Structure_and_Plans_to_Innovate_Virtual_Interactions>
and will be updated as we approach the June 23 event, but what you can
expect is a conversation about the creation of new scientific insights from
data through the union of statistics, computer science, applied
mathematics, and visualization, i.e., data science.

We will hold two one-hour sessions on June 23 and will embrace new modes of
connection in the virtual setting:

   - Synchronous interaction: Two one-hour Zoom sessions on June 23
   (Tuesday)
      - 11 AM-12 PM MT: "The State of CEDAR Data Science" followed by
      round-table discussion
      - 12:30-1:30 PM MT: "Thematic Provocative Talks & Breakout Rooms"
   - Asynchronous interaction:
      - Prior to session via Slack and Google Drive
      - In-between two sessions using brainstorming board (via Miro
      <https://miro.com>)
      - After session stewarding the brainstormed ideas

*What you can do*: We welcome your

   1. Contribution in the form of short presentations (5 minutes) to
   present during the first session (time-permitting);
   2. Suggestions for who you would like to hear from on the topic of data
   science <https://forms.gle/skWs9FGsRFbbHowR6> (these suggestions need
   not be limited to the CEDAR community); and
   3. Curiosities and thoughts during the conversations that will take
   place in the second session.

Please join us to envision how to collaborate virtually and amplify the
momentum toward CEDAR data science.

Kind regards,
Ryan McGranaghan on behalf of the convenes
Asti Bhatt (SRI)
Bharat Kunduri (Virginia Tech)
Elizabeth MacDonald (NASA)
Marcin Pilinski (CU Boulder)
James Ahrens (LANL)
