We would like to invite you to submit an abstract for the session “Theory, Modelling and Observations to support the Predictability of Ionospheric Irregularities and Scintillation” (ID: 100962, SPA-Aeronomy). The session description follows:
Ionospheric irregularities pose a serious threat to radio signals. The nature of the threat is defined by the Fresnel’s filtering mechanism. Large scale irregularities (above Fresnel’s scale) result in phase fluctuations of trans-ionospheric signals, due to the signal refraction through the ionospheric medium, while small scales (below Fresnel’s scale) result in amplitude and phase scintillations, mainly induced by diffraction. This session emphasizes the latest developments in theory, modeling and diagnostic measurements of ionospheric structuring and its effects on radio signals. Papers that analyze phase fluctuations (refraction) and scintillation (diffraction) effects on satellite-based communication, navigation, and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems are welcome. Contributed papers may address (but are not limited to) recent developments in forecasting techniques of scintillation with a horizon from minutes to several hours, statistical and climatological studies of scintillations, multi-technique and multi-instrument observations of irregularities including in situ observations, aimed at possible prediction of scintillations.

About the meeting (from the AGU website): AGU Fall Meeting 2020 will be mostly virtual and remains the global convening meeting for the Earth and space sciences community. Featured meeting content will be held during the original 7-11 December dates, with additional content scheduled to best meet the needs of our international attendees around the world. Content will include real-time sessions, networking opportunities and poster hall time. We will also offer recorded sessions so you can watch (or binge) at your convenience. Convergent themes including global science policy, data, natural hazards and climate science will be prominently featured.
