Dear Colleagues,

The Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP) will host
an AGU Town Hall on PRESTO, SCOSTEP’s new scientific program. This town
hall will include the presentation of the SCOSTEP Distinguished Service
Award to Dr. Sunanda Basu for her selfless service over nearly three
decades towards promoting SCOSTEP science, and recognizing the talent in
solar-terrestrial science across the globe.

This virtual town hall will be held on Wednesday December 16, 2020 from 7
to 8 AM Pacific Time. If you are registered for the AGU meeting, you may
find this Town Hall on the following link:

Town Hall Abstract: The Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics
(SCOSTEP) is a thematic organization of the International Science Council
(ISC). SCOSTEP promotes ISC’s mission to strengthen international science
for the benefit of society. SCOSTEP runs international interdisciplinary
scientific programs and promotes solar-terrestrial physics research by
providing the necessary scientific framework for international
collaboration and dissemination of the derived scientific knowledge in
collaboration with other ISC bodies. SCOSTEP is a permanent observer at the
United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS).
SCOSTEP has organized a variety of initiatives in the past, such as CAWSES
and VarSITI, that provided a framework along with limited financial support
to catalyze international cooperation in the study of the Sun-Earth
connection. SCOSTEP is now launching a new initiative, PRESTO
(PREdictability of variable Solar-Terrestrial cOupling), to run from
2020-2024. At this town hall, we will describe the scientific pillars of
PRESTO and the science questions the pillars are to address. We will also
present information on how you can get involved in the PRESTO program and
what resources are available to support PRESTO-related activities.

Please join this informative Town Hall.

Best regards,
Patricia Doherty, SCOSTEP, Scientific Secretary
Ramon Lopez, PRESTO Chair
Jie Zhang, PRESTO Co-Chair
Kazuo Shiokawa, SCOSTEP President
