Dear CEDAR community,

The Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineer at Virginia Tech (VT) is looking for one or more PhD candidates in Space Physics and Aeronomy. It is anticipated that the student will be involved in analysis or simulation relevant to NASA’s Ionospheric Connection Explorer (ICON) mission. ICON launched in October 2019 and is providing a combination of in situ and remote sensing data from low earth orbit that can be used for a multitude of studies of the Earth’s upper atmosphere and ionosphere.

Candidates should currently hold or expect to hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematic or related field. The deadline for applications is December 30th, 2019. Details on the application procedure can be found here: https://www.aoe.vt.edu/graduate/graduate-admissions.html <https://www.aoe.vt.edu/graduate/graduate-admissions.html>
It is anticipated that a student will participate with the studies going on at Virginia Tech’s Center for Space Science and Engineering Research (Space at VT). Researchers at Space at VT study the Geospace environment, including the effects of space-weather events on the structure and dynamics of Earth’s atmosphere and ionosphere. More information on Space at VT can be found at https://www.space.vt.edu <https://www.space.vt.edu/>

Further information about the aerospace department can be found here: https://www.aoe.vt.edu <https://www.aoe.vt.edu/>
Sincerely,

Scott England
