Dear Colleagues,
We invite contributions to the AGU Fall Meeting session "Advances in
Observation, Modeling, and Forecasting of Ionospheric Plasma Irregularities
<https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm19/prelim.cgi/Session/82028>". The session
description is below. Abstracts can be submitted at
https://www2.agu.org/Fall-Meeting/Pages/Submit-an-abstract. The deadline
for abstract submissions is July 31.
Sincerely,

*Session Title:*
SA002 - Advances in Observation, Modeling, and Forecasting of Ionospheric
Plasma Irregularities
*Session Description:*
Plasma density irregularities are a persistent feature of the Earth's
ionosphere at all latitudes. The generation, morphology and dynamics of
irregularities are intimately linked to plasma instabilities and physical
processes that couple the ionosphere to the magnetosphere, solar wind, and
neutral atmosphere. Multiscale characterization of irregularities and
resolution of the mechanisms that govern irregularity generation and
evolution continue to be unsolved scientific problems. New and innovative
data analysis and modeling techniques (e.g. machine learning) have the
potential to address some of these outstanding issues. This session will be
a forum for discussing recent advances in regional-and-global observation,
simulation, modeling, and forecasting of irregularities that occur over a
range of scales, from microscale scintillation-producing structures to
macroscale (continental-size) disturbances. Submissions that include the
development of forecasting and mitigation tools for the degrading impact of
irregularities on GNSS and communication systems are also of significant
interest.
