Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to submit abstracts to our session discussing hemispheric symmetries and asymmetries, which will occur during the 2019 AOGS meeting in Singapore. The session description is below. Please submit your abstracts by February 12, 2019.

ST19: Hemispheric Symmetry and Asymmetry in the Solar-Terrestrial Coupling

There is little doubt that merging of the interplanetary and Earth's magnetic fields plays the major role in the coupling between the Sun and the magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere (MIT) system. Current theories and models often simplify the geospace as a passive system in response to external driving. More and more studies have revealed that the coupling does not always result in symmetric responses between the northern and southern hemispheres as previously thought. This suggests that the coupling is a feedback process and differences in the north and south hemispheres react differently to the coupling. This session will examine and review the effect of the MIT system in response to the external driver. Papers that investigate north and south responses of the MIT system separately to the solar wind, interplanetary magnetic field, and perhaps solar insolation, utilizing observations, theory, numerical simulations, or any combination of these are welcome.

Looking forward to seeing you there,
Elizabeth Mitchell
